Crown and Bridge
Damaged teeth affect your appearance and self-confidence and can also compromise your oral health. If not treated, damaged teeth can contribute to decay, gum disease, teeth grinding, and a variety of other problems.
According to the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons 69% of adults ages 35 to 44 have lost at least one permanent tooth to an accident, gum disease, a failed root canal, or tooth decay. By the time people reach 74, 26% of those adults will have lost all of their permanent teeth.
We see many patients who no longer want to smile, but feel that they can’t afford a dental crown or bridge. At Woodbridge Dental, we work with our patients, insured and uninsured, to help them afford the dental care they need.
At Woodbridge Dental, our team is pleased to offer you all the options you need to restore your smile to a healthy condition. We specialize in high-quality treatments like crowns and bridges that are custom-made to look completely natural and last for many years.
Natural-Looking Crowns
A dental crown is used to restore function and appearance to a damaged tooth. Crowns are also sometimes referred to as caps because they cup over your tooth to strengthen and protect it.
Some cases where we may recommend placement of a dental crown are:
- Filling a large tooth cavity
- After root canal therapy to strengthen the tooth
- Repairing teeth that have dark stains, cracks, or other damage
- Building up poorly shaped or misaligned teeth
- Restoring a dental implant
We often choose ceramic crowns because they are very durable and can be designed to closely match surrounding teeth. But gold and porcelain-fused-to-metal are other excellent options that we can talk about when discussing your treatment.
Uses for Dental Bridges
A dental bridge fills the empty space left by a missing tooth. Bridges are made up of an artificial tooth that is attached to neighboring teeth with dental crowns. Missing teeth need to be replaced because the loss of even one tooth can cause a number of oral health problems. When a tooth is missing, surrounding teeth start to move out of place, leaving you with a misaligned smile and problems with your dental bite.
Dental bridges are effective because they offer many solutions:
- Filling the space left by a missing tooth
- Preventing shifting of surrounding teeth
- Providing a permanent alternative to a removable partial denture
A well-made dental bridge is securely attached to existing teeth, making it very stable. In certain situations, we may recommend that a dental implant be used to support the bridge for maximum strength and functionality.
